Bronze Africa ‘Kilimanjaro Bull’

In 1898 a slave working for an ivory and slave trader out of Zanzibar killed an Elephant on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. The ivory from this bull arrived at the ivory sheds on the London docks and the buyer, it appears, donated these tusks to the London Museum of Natural History. The story is vague but the tusks are today on public display and they measure 226lbs / 10′ 2″ on the right and 214lbs / 10′ 5″ on the left. I see him and I have sculpted him as he is through the eyes of someone who hunted Elephants and never found anything near as magnificent as he must have been.
