Sculptures in the pipeline

John is in Zimbabwe getting his well-earned ‘Africa Fix’ visiting family and friends and generally enjoying the place closest to his heart. I thought I might would give you a preview of what he has been working on lately. As of yet he has not titled any of them so we’ll have to wait and see…

The Elk

Very time consuming to make those antlers and few more adjustments to come when the Africa trip is done.

The Bushbuck

John has had several requests to sculpt this special animal. John will be there for the patina work emphasizing the stripes and spots which should make it very interesting piece.

Black Rhino

This is going to be in the large category with plenty of action going on as the rhino lumbers out of the brush with his little ‘passenger’ hanging on for dear life.

Charge of the Light Brigade

These 2 little elephants are ready to go to the foundry – one of my more whimsical and light-hearted pieces to join the collection of smaller sculptures – popular as gifts and adornments on desks and smaller spaces in the home and the office.

Very pleased with this piece. Rich with that special brand of chaotic excitement that little ellies are so well known for.

January Update

Well so much for this guy putting his feet up and taking it easy. No, no – I have been as busy as hell with commissions and new pieces, another trip up to Montana to take delivery of new pieces and then attending the Dallas Safari Club. Just after Dallas I was approached to produce a piece for an award with an edition of 50. It will be awarded to one person per year who best exemplifies Courage and Perseverance throughout the year. I feel humble and honored to have achieved what I was asked to create.

Two other commissioned pieces are now delivered, namely the Mountain Monarch and the Mongolian Argali sheep – both sculptures took me way out of my comfort zone – however despite the challenge both my clients and I are very happy with the results.

You’ll find 3 new pieces have been added to the gallery so head over there to have a look.

Belligerence is here – all 250lbs of it…

Well, we took time about it, Belligerence and I – and now the time has come to bring you my most ambitious sculpture to date.

Six buffalo bulls on a termite mound, tightly packed, multiple levels, dynamic poses – a piece that took months of work but I wanted to raise the bar and aim higher. I wanted to dig deeper into my head-space than ever before with a buffalo sculpture. You can see the result here.

This is an edition of 7. Miles White, who commissioned the Stag, took Belligerence while it was still in the clay so the first one has already gone to Illinois.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed sculpting it.

Two new quirky pieces in the Gallery

A couple of new pieces in the Gallery that are a little more light-hearted in nature.

Find out more about mother warthog and her brood here. I have called this piece ‘Pigs Trotters’ – for obvious reasons.

And for those of you who enjoy rural African scenes here is a little piece that speaks volumes about the pecking order around food.
