Moonlight under the Baobab
Sculpture of Elephant under a Baobab tree
Bronze Africa ‘Moonlight under the Baobab’
I had a temporary camp for one safari on the shores of Lake Kariba in the Charara Safari area, to go between two hunting areas in Zimbabwe. The camp was partly constructed on the day I arrived at the site, the night came and we had to quit work. I was lying awake on my camp bed under a tree as the tent was not up yet, when I heard what I had to presume were Elephant close by to where I was. I got up and walked toward the sound and could see a couple of Elephant under a small baobab tree really close to where I was standing. I stood still and watched them feeding around the base of the tree. I guessed they were picking up the Cream of Tartar seed pods that had fallen from the tree. I was about to move away when I was suddenly aware of a Bushbuck really close to me and for fear of spooking it and in turn the elephant, I just had to stand there until it moved away before I too could leave. Such scenes don’t fade they just ferment and get better as the years go by.
It is prominently displayed in our busiest room in the house and we frequently pause to admire it.
