Honey Badger Territory
Sculpture of Buffalo and Honey Badger
Bronze Africa ‘Honey Badger Territory’
Some years ago I was invited by John Seerey Lester to sculpt a bronze of one of his paintings. The story revolved around what John referred to as ‘The Baker Safari’. The incident depicted occurred in 1891 where an old Buffalo had been grazing between the tents in the night and got his horns tangled in the guy ropes of one of the tents which spooked him and he took off pulling the tent and occupants with him. John and I never got together and the sculpture sat in my studio for at least four years. Now that John is no longer with us, I decided to destroy the sculpture but my wife Di was not happy to see me destroy the Buffalo so I left him as he is and had him being accosted by a Honey Badger. For those of you that don’t know, this guy is Africa’s most fearless little animal. He has been made famous by Robert Ruark’s book ‘The Honey Badger’ for that reason.
